Happy New Year!

I’ve been trying to gather my thoughts all day for a witty post for the new year.  I even went as far as looking on the internet for quotes/verses that may enable me to put my thoughts together. ;)  However, I still wasn’t finding what I was hoping for.

And, then it came to me…the resolutions, dreams, goals and intentions we lay out at the beginning of a new year are thought provoking initially.  We start off well and end up forgetting what our list was all about in the first place.  I’m a goal-setter by nature, and do it throughout the course of the year.  However, I still have many dreams and goals to yet accomplish and many that have fallen by the waste-side.

I guess I want my New Year’s thoughts to be surrounded by relationships…my precious family, dearest friends, devoted clients, and God .  I want these relationships to grow and flourish throughout the year.  We will always have goals for our profession, for our homes, for our financial state…those are a given.  However, I want the real focus of my life to be about those with whom I’m surrounded.  In my desperate search for the perfect quote, I did come across this one below:

“The best thing about the future is that it only comes one day at a time.”  -Abraham Lincoln

This quote brought it all together for me.  I have come to realize that regardless of the situations we are involved in we have to take one day at a time.  And, thankfully, that is the best part about the future.  Instead of looking at the year as a whole, I want to see it for each day.  I want to focus on the daily hugs I get from Gabe and Claire, the ‘I love you’s’ from Jeremy, the times spent with family and friends, the wonderful clients that come into our lives, and my relationship with my Heavenly Father.  I want to cherish each day.  Sure, there will be days that I want to end…even seasons.  However, my focus will be surrounded by those that I love…and that will be enough.  I will be able to look back on my relationships and discover that many goals were accomplished in the midst of it all.

These pictures depict the love I want to get out of my new year…the laughter, the kisses, the smiles, the relationships.  We are so thankful to have friends (Amanda Reynolds & Amanda Elpers) that were willing to document our family when it is next to impossible to do it on our own.  These images were from our last 2 family sessions and I love them all!

I trust that your new year will be filled with many relationships to those you love…Happy New Year!
